First Performance of Season 42

OPAS kicked of the season with the fantastic The Texas Tenors! The patrons were drawn in by the Tenors' natural humor, talented voices, and motivating messages. The Tenors worked the Aggie crowd  well and received the loudest "howdy" they have ever heard on their tour. The patrons excitingly lined the halls after the performance to buy CDs and anxiously awaited the opportunity to take a picture with the Tenors.

The student committee was ready to tackle whatever came their way and helped every patron to their fullest ability. This was also the first major event for the newly added members of OPAS and the increasing strength in numbers and dedication became evident as the operations went smoothly and precisely. Thank you to everyone who helped!

A congratulations is in order for the Front of House Operations team (Anna Pendergrass, Maura Lytle, Macy Hicks, Noel Handy, Megan Kim, and Katy Gray) led by Zach Vaughn, and to the Back of House Operations team (Michelle Kratofil, Kelsey Morris, Megan Hoenig, Jacob de Jongh, Luke Dube, Amanda Ibarra, and Jenny Johnson) led by Jordan Scoville for their work before and during the performance.

Also, a huge thanks goes out to Aggieland Credit Union for sponsoring the performance and making the possibility of having The Texas Tenors a reality.

The Texas Tenors

Next week, OPAS will have its first performance of Season 42! The Texas Tenors are coming to Rudder Auditorium on September 26th at 7:30 pm for a one night only event.

In 2009, The Texas Tenors were on the main stage at America's Got Talent singing for millions of viewers. They have performed over 500 concerts in the past four years and have collaborated with numerous symphonies. If you appreciate a wide range of country, gospel, classical, Broadway music along with clever humor, then The Texas Tenors will captivate your attention. After all, they were the highest ranking vocal group in the history of AGT's existence. The 26th will be a night to remember at Texas A&M as Marcus Collins, John Hagen, and JC Fisher will lead the audience into a musical collaboration. Here  you can listen to some of their videos!

MSC Open House

OPAS was well represented at the MSC Open House, where many impressionable freshman roamed the packed halls of the student center searching for the organization that they would dedicate their valuable time towards. Kyle Sarradet, the Director of Committee Relations this year, lead a fearless group of Opasites to attract, inspire, and motivate people to commit to the great services OPAS can provide. This week, new applicant interviews are being held, and soon new faces will represent OPAS by holding banners, ushering patrons, and fundraising profits all in the name of art.

Party on the Plaza

OPAS and the MSC hosted Party on the Plaza which brought the talented group, Emerald City Band, to College Station to perform for the students of Texas A&M.

The exposure was remarkable and the students danced the night away as they filled the plaza. It was an incredible night with friends, free food, and fantastic music.

A big thanks to all that volunteered at the event and to everyone that made this event possible. It was a complete success and definitely had Season 42 off to a great start!

Be on the lookout for the great performances we have coming up!

Welcome to The Playbill!

Salutations and welcome to the official blog of MSC OPAS! We are an organization from the Memorial Student Center at Texas A&M University that hosts traveling productions of music, theatre and dance to the Bryan-College Station area. Our main goal is to promote the performing arts not only to students at Texas A&M, but to the people of the Brazos Valley.

This is to document our journey in fulfilling that goal. OPAS has an incredible amount of supporters, enthusiastic volunteers, and dedicated staff that work diligently every day so people can be exposed to extraordinary performances that may not be readily available otherwise.

The student committee has a great year planned for our 42nd season and hopefully this will be a medium in which everyone can gain an understanding of what we do, what performances we bring, and who represents OPAS (both student and adult committees).

Let's get ready for an unbelievable year. Let's get ready for Good Times.
